このたび、桃青京都ギャラリーでは、愛知県瀬戸市・岐阜県多治見市を拠点に活動する陶芸家・大西佑一の個展を開催いたします。
大西は、素材に触れ、その表情を探る行為を通して、自身の記憶や内面に潜む感覚・イメージを立体や空間へと置き換え、可視化する制作を行ってきました。土と向き合う行為は、大西にとって自己の内と外、その境界を見つめ直すための手段であり、感覚を捉え直すためのファインダーでもあります。
豊かな自然に囲まれた故郷・三重県熊野市で育った経験は、作家の感覚形成の根幹を成しています。幼少期から五感を通して感じ取ってきた、土地に満ちる空気や気配、自然物が織りなす風景は、日常に存在する「空間」や「もの」を捉える際の原点として、現在の制作に深く息づいています。
素材に手を介し、触覚から思考を巡らせながら、その特性と自身の意図が交差する地点で現れる「かたち」と対話を重ねる中で、作家は記憶を堆積させていきます。そうしたプロセスを通して、自身のバックグラウンドを起点に内在する多様な感覚やイメージが呼び起こされ、「内なる風景」として作品へと結実していきます。
代表的な表現として挙げられる淡い翡翠色を帯びた釉薬は、故郷・熊野で産出される那智黒石を調合することで生まれたものです。この釉薬は大西の陶表現において重要な役割を担い、作品に静謐で奥行きのある表情をもたらしています。近年ではさらに、やきものと那智黒石の原石を組み合わせたハイブリッドな造形にも取り組み、素材そのものの存在感と空間性を拡張する試みを続けています。
本展では、那智黒石を用いた釉薬表現と、土の表情に真摯に向き合うことで生まれた作品を中心に、大西佑一の現在地を紹介いたします。素材と記憶、内面と外界が交錯する静かな緊張感を、この機会にぜひご体感ください。
Tosei Kyoto Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition by ceramic artist Yuichi Onishi, who is based in Seto, Aichi Prefecture, and Tajimi, Gifu Prefecture.
Through the act of touching materials and exploring their expressive qualities, Onishi translates memories and the sensations and images that lie within his inner world into three-dimensional forms and spaces, making them visible. For the artist, engaging with clay is a way of re-examining the boundary between the inner self and the outer world — a kind of finder through which he reclaims and refocuses his senses.
Onishi’s formative years in his hometown of Kumano City, Mie Prefecture, surrounded by abundant nature, lie at the core of his sensibility. Since childhood, the atmosphere, presence, and landscapes created by natural elements — experienced through all five senses — have become a point of origin for how he perceives “space” and “objects” in everyday life, and they continue to breathe deeply within his current practice.
By working the material with his hands and allowing thought to emerge from tactile experience, Onishi engages in an ongoing dialogue with the “forms” that appear at the intersection of the material’s properties and his own intentions. Through this process, memories gradually accumulate. Rooted in his personal background, diverse internal sensations and images are awakened and ultimately take shape in his works as “inner landscapes.”
One of his signature expressions is a glaze with a pale jade-like hue, created by incorporating Nachi-guro stone — a distinctive black stone produced in his native Kumano. This glaze plays an important role in his ceramic practice, bringing a sense of quiet depth and stillness to the surfaces of his works. In recent years, he has also explored hybrid forms that combine ceramics with raw Nachi-guro stone, further expanding the material presence and spatial dimension of his practice.
This exhibition introduces Onishi Yuichi’s current practice, centering on works that feature glazes made with Nachi-guro stone and that arise from his sincere engagement with the expressive qualities of clay. We warmly invite you to experience the quiet tension where material and memory, interior and exterior worlds intersect.

このたび桃青京都ギャラリーでは、滋賀・信楽を拠点に制作を続ける陶芸家、上田勇児・鈴木由衣・村田彩による三人展を開催いたします。国内外で高い評価を受け、現代陶芸・コンテンポラリーアートの分野で世界的に活躍する三名が一堂に会する、非常に貴重な機会となります。
本展のメインテーマは「抹茶碗」。
上田勇児、鈴木由衣の二名は、これまで主にコンテンポラリーアートとしての陶表現を追求してきた作家であり、抹茶碗の制作は本展が初の試みとなります。一方、村田彩はこれまでも器と造形の両面から陶芸表現を深めてきた作家であり、本展では新たな抹茶碗の表現を提示します。三名すべての抹茶碗は本展のために制作された新作です。
抹茶碗という、日本文化と精神性を象徴するかたちに、信楽の土と炎、そしてそれぞれの作家の美意識がどのように立ち現れるのか。伝統的な器でありながら、完成された形式にとどまらない、現代ならではの解釈と実験性が本展の大きな見どころです。
会場には抹茶碗のほか、オブジェ、壺、皿なども並び、各作家の多様な表現を包括的にご紹介します。素材への鋭い感覚、造形への探究心、そして信楽という土地に根ざしながら世界へと開かれた視点が交差する展示空間となるでしょう。
冬から春へと季節が移ろう三月。新しいはじまりの気配のなかで生まれた、三人の作家による抹茶碗と作品群を、ぜひご高覧ください。

Tosei Kyoto Gallery is pleased to present a three-person exhibition featuring ceramic artists Yuji Ueda, Yui Suzuki, and Aya Murata, all of whom are based in Shigaraki, Shiga, where they continue their artistic practices. Widely acclaimed both in Japan and internationally, these three artists are active on the global stage in the fields of contemporary ceramics and contemporary art. This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to see their works brought together in one place.
The central theme of this exhibition is the matcha tea bowl.
Yuji Ueda and Yui Suzuki have primarily pursued ceramic expression within the context of contemporary art, and this exhibition marks their first attempt at creating matcha tea bowls. In contrast, Aya Murata has long explored ceramic expression from both functional and sculptural perspectives, and here she presents new interpretations of the matcha tea bowl. All of the matcha tea bowls by the three artists are newly created works made especially for this exhibition.
How will the clay and fire of Shigaraki, together with each artist’s aesthetic sensibility, emerge within the form of the matcha tea bowl — a shape that symbolizes Japanese culture and spirituality? Though traditionally a functional vessel, the tea bowl is not confined to a fixed or completed form. One of the highlights of this exhibition lies in the distinctly contemporary interpretations and experimental approaches brought to this iconic format.
In addition to matcha tea bowls, the exhibition will also feature objects, jars, and plates, offering a comprehensive view of each artist’s diverse modes of expression. The space will become a point of intersection where a sharp sensitivity to materials, a spirit of formal exploration, and perspectives rooted in Shigaraki yet open to the world come together.
As the seasons shift from winter to spring in March, we warmly invite you to experience the matcha tea bowls and other works by these three artists, created amid the atmosphere of new beginnings.
